The housing affordability crisis is increasing the number of people experiencing poverty and disadvantage in Queensland. A Fair Go for All Australians: a Fair Go for All Queenslanders reveals almost 350,000 Queenslanders are living in poverty. It also reveals the number of people at risk of poverty is increasing.

The report was released at the Queensland launch of Anti Poverty Week 2007. The week aims to strengthen public understanding of the causes and consequences of poverty as well as encourage research, discussion and action by individuals, communities, organisations and governments

The report draws on research revealing 77% of Australians believe the gap between rich and poor in Australia is widening. Dental health issues, groups likely to be in poverty and regional disadvantage are also included in A Fair Go for All Australians: a Fair Go for All Queenslanders

.

For over 50 years QCOSS has strived to promote social justice through working to eliminate inequality and disadvantage. The Queensland Council of Social Service represents 700 organisations and individuals throughout the state.
