SENATE POVERTY INQUIRY
In mid-March, the Senate Community Affairs Reference Committee released its Poverty Report, 'A hand up not a hand out: Renewing the fight against poverty'. There was little fanfare and limited media coverage. One could be forgiven for thinking it was 'just another' report on poverty. Yet, this Inquiry was billed as the most comprehensive and wide-ranging since Sir
Ronald Henderson headed the Commission of Inquiry into Poverty in the early 1970s.
